End Times 04:57
If the end times are nigh And all we can do is say is goodbye What will it mean if no one remembers a thing, When all humanity ceases And all we’ve seen is pointless history Name one Sumerian, pauper or king Yet here I exist with you At the precipice, staring into the abyss So why should we believe any differently? What limits fate in this Milky Way? Empires fall Civilizations crawl to their everlasting doom, Destroying the very womb that birthed us all All we can do is use The time we receive for what we perceive Will for us constitute our greatest good So here I exist with you At the precipice, staring into the abyss And you, I hold on to… And you, I hold on to… Our moment in the sun may be undone But it is enough… But it is enough… To be in love with you

Burn It Down 03:05
We marched to people the streets To protest the wrongs of society Here we go again Another time around my friends Who knows where it will end? After midnight is the time For our reality to come alive We can show the world what’s right Here we go again Another time around my friends Who knows where it will end? Out of the way we’re coming through Anyway what you gonna do Ten to one we outnumber you We are the solution Attach the ropes and bring it down A little violence never hurt anyone Crack the window and grab what you want Call it reparations Light it up and burn it down The people will come around When they see what we’ve done In the name of everyone Here we go again Night after night my friends Revolutions never end Left and right Squeeze just a little Now it’s too tight And they’re caught in the middle Stepping over the blue line Everyone should be on our side Here we go again It’s anarchy my friends The chaos will never end Left and right Squeeze just a little Now it’s too tight And they’re caught in the middle Stepping over the blue line How come we’re so despised? If you’ve no stomach for the fight Well, F you and your property rights A guillotine would serve you right You’re all on the other side Burn it down Burn it down Burn it down Burn it down Burn it down

I couldn’t tell by the light That it wasn’t morning but sunset I think the confusion that I felt Came from feelings of regret I should have seen the warnings They were easier to ignore Like love’s dying embers Every time before I thought we’d built each moment As a bridge From the past to the future The one thing I could never understand: How could you say that all our days together Didn’t mean a thing The one thing I could never understand: How could you say that all our days together Didn’t mean a thing I’m not ashamed of who I am Who we are now or have been Though love makes people do stupid things And we did a lot of them I would do it all again Because I can’t be who I am Without what brought me here: The love, the torment, and the fear If it’s all just a moment in time Can’t we say it was beautiful in our lives? The one thing I could never understand: How could you say that all our days together Didn’t mean a thing The one thing I could never understand: How could you say that all our days together Didn’t mean a thing If I’m haunted by the thoughts of you It’s only an echo of an idea of a truth Of something that couldn’t last We are both better now on different paths I thought we’d built each moment As a bridge from the past I’m not ashamed of who I am Or that we didn’t last I would do it all again Because I can’t be who I am Without what brought me here: The love and the tears If it’s all just a moment in time At least it’s yours and it’s mine A jewel, bright and glimmering Always a sacred memory The only part that cuts The one statement I’ll never make is that all the time we shared Didn’t mean a thing The only part that’s real now The one statement that I’ll make is that all the time we shared Meant everything It meant everything

Everyone 05:32
What you’re saying makes no sense to me What you’re thinking is unmoored from reality I’m not saying you’re wrong about everything But wrong enough that it ends disastrously What do we have if not the truth What’s the same for me is the same for you What’s objective is not up for dispute If it is it’s a crazy world Everyone How can you play on everyone’s sympathy How can you be offended by everything Discounting all the progress of humanity In a mindless wave of soliloquies If you go and cancel everyone who doesn’t adhere to your master plan You can pick them off one by one Or in groups for max devastation Everyone You’re ready to watch it burn When you blithely change the meaning of words Redefining what we’ve learned Until nothing means a thing You’re ready to watch it burn And of this I’m certain An ill wind blows over everything I can feel the culture shaking It could blow out or be igniting Stop pouring on the gasoline The matches go one two three It only takes one to light up eternity Believing something fervently Counts for nothing Everyone Everyone is quaking because soon the stake will be blazing and they’ll be tinder for what you’re destroying Things like freedom and democracy You’re just ready to watch the world burn And of this I’m certain No one thinks themselves a fiend Everyone thinks they’re a good person While doing terrible things Everyone, everyone, everyone

The center of my heart cannot hold; Its mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, In ways that other poets have foretold: Love, unrequited and bold, destroys the soul Things fall apart Disbelief steals like a thief The warmer emotions leaving only grief As my life’s overarching theme And all that’s left to me retreats to the province of dreams Things fall apart Some nights I dream of you A shimmering vision of half-truths Where you see me as I do: The only one meant for you Alas! ’tis slumber’s eyes only Where I might appear so fairly In reality I must depart these scenes For a life less full of grief My heart must set you free Things fall apart

Gotta Unplug 04:08
No one is who they want to be The alarms are ringing constantly I’m flaming people I can’t see ‘cause I don’t care how they feel I’m writing things I may believe I’ll be satisfied if it’s funny If people like, share, and Tweet You know what that means… Nothing Gotta unplug We seem to prize anonymity so we can abandon civility I’ll call you names and post memes Then ghost you if we disagree All the world’s connecting with errant thoughts, words, and deeds Full of sound and fury Carrying the same meaning… Nothing Gotta unplug Gotta unplug We’re slaves to technology Instead of who we should be Existing every day virtually ‘cause we’re addicted to our screens We’re living lives of futility Tapping and clicking endlessly Perhaps what we really need Is to keep it real Keep it real Gotta unplug Gotta unplug

Yesterday but a dream A dream Tomorrow a vision A vision Today well-lived Today well-lived Makes yesterday a dream of happiness Makes tomorrow a vision of hope Today is the very life of life Look therefore to this day Look to this day…to this day

One lesson I learned oh so well You can’t and shouldn’t try to tell Anyone what to do It’s their life, their freedom to choose So how did I convince you? Can I thank some karmic divinity? Did fate’s wheel stop spinning perfectly? Was it ordained throughout history? Or did you have the freedom to choose And somehow chose me? I dislike that fate rules the day I prefer the thought that we have some sway In the way things turn out but who really knows? I’ve read everything I can find I can’t prove how it goes I could mediate on your love How the heart has its reasons Are there answers to these questions? Oh my love, Oh my love You could have had anyone Can I thank some karmic divinity? Did fate’s wheel stop spinning perfectly? Was it ordained throughout history? Or did you have the freedom to choose And somehow chose me? I think you had the freedom to choose And you chose me I think you had the freedom to choose And you chose me I could mediate on your love Oh my love Oh my love You could have had anyone

Orphaned 04:00
If grief is love Looking for a place to go Sometimes my heart Just wants to explode This is how life’s supposed to be You were meant to be outlived by me I carry on with your memory And all these feelings I am so much more than I was before Why can’t I close the door and move forward onward from your departure I know life isn’t forever So why am I stuck here? With the pain Crashing in waves With the pain Crashing over me This is how life’s supposed to be You were meant to be outlived by me I carry on with your memory And all these feelings This is how life’s supposed to be You were meant to be outlived by me I carry on with your memory And all these feelings All these feelings All these feelings And that’s now my journey And that’s now my journey

Generation Z 04:16
We gave you the soft bigotry of low expectations Called it a mercy for any sub-standard deviations Here’s your cap and here’s your gown and here’s your helpful piece of paper We all know how the real world gives trophies for participation Generation Z, the world awaits thee We kinda broke a few things Good luck adulting Jesus, Moms circle back into your cars Helicopter parenting won’t get your kid a job Not sure what you think you’re gonna to do Unless you’re applying to be a barista too I’d like to say these are terrific grades But we all know about inflation these days Can you tell me your skills and where you’re strong? Thanks very much, not you, mom Generation Z, the world is waiting We kinda broke a few things Not solved by texting Raised on iPhones, YouTube, and TikTok songs If you’re not too bored the planet’s yours, What else could go wrong? Hey super that you’re using tats to express your authentic self Great that you can prove you’re unique—just like everybody else You might feel depressed, lonely, or a little blue Here’s a life pro-tip: Put down the phone and talk to the person next to you Generation Z, the future depends on thee We kinda broke a few things They might need fixing So it’s over to you To solve what we couldn’t do No blame if you want to take an Ambien or two

Mother Earth 05:06
Mother Earth, the abode of our birth, waits while we search for solutions We pump up the heat and drive industry because so sweet is the crude We pave the land, turning forests into sand, And call it human progress Isn’t it clear that fear resides here in the younger generations? Mother…mother…mother… We’ve been given things you wouldn’t believe Nimbus clouds on high pushed by the jet stream South African kelp forests, rich and teeming Green fields blanketing the Hebrides Chill fog as it rolls through the City Snow gracing the peaks in the Andes Diving the Great Blue Hole and coral reefs Mammoth caves stretching through Kentucky Following the winding river delta of the Yangtze Walking the African grasslands, fertile and deep Mist hanging over the tops of Cascadian fir trees Catching the summer Parisian downpour and lightening Facing the Pacific salt spray wind of the sea All the gifts we’ve received You wouldn’t believe Mother Earth, the abode of our birth, waits while we search for solutions We pump up the heat and drive industry because so sweet is the crude We pave the land, turning forests into sand, And call it human progress Isn’t it clear that fear resides here in the younger generations? Mother Earth, scarred and burned, thanks to our habitation The time draws near if nothing we see or hear will change our behavior What will you do, not just for you, but for your mother? What will you do, not just for you, but for your mother?

One People 05:55
All this slicing and dicing of you and me and splitting and tearing us into separate identities Well, love is unbounded by anything here So shallow as the color of skin By any trait other than like me you’re human Oh brothers and sisters of humanity stop the division Start the collection of reasons why we can live as one We share the same family tree and families don’t always agree We can respect each other, offer grace and dignity We are all sisters and brothers One people together I refuse to judge you on anything but what you’ve done, The character you’ve displayed toward me and the care of everyone It isn’t a gift to expect less than the best of someone I believe in growth, change, and redemption We are all sisters and brothers One people together

about

I'm a Gen Xer, raised on classic rock and New Wave '80s synth pop. "Empires Fall..." reflects that musically. Lyrically, these are songs about change and my attempt to capture the zeitgeist in what feels like the apocalypse. My music is political, emotional, and personal. It's being released under the band name "Noisy Primates" which seems an apt descriptor; though I wrote the songs, I didn't create all of this alone—I had the help of some very talented musicians.

I am indebted to you all for your musical contributions. Every song is better than I could have made it on my own, and you fine, talented people are the reason why.
